Our StoryFounded in 2002 by CEO Sunil Shah, SAM HPRP Chemicals, Inc. is a fast-growing multinational ingredient sourcing and distribution company that focuses on the following business sectors: animal feed and health, fertilizer, human nutrition and other botanical and organic supplements.
Born and raised in Mumbai, Shah has a strong background in business despite finishing a master’s in polymers and coatings at North Dakota State University. Upon completion, he returned to Mumbai to join the family paint and coating business. For several years, Shah’s ambition to grow more led him and his wife back to the States where she studied for her master’s in computer science. They permanently settled in Minneapolis with their son, Apoorva.
After much hard work and perseverance, SAM HPRP Chemicals received their first major break as the main supplier of leather dyes and shoe tanning chemicals for the United States Armed Forces through Red Wing Shoes. Since then, the business’s exponential growth has resulted in providing materials for various sectors including animal feed and plant nutrition.
SAM HPRP Chemicals success today is by the provided high-quality products and great customer service. “Customer service is the key factor that will distinguish us from others,” Shah noted, “add products that will yield results and you will build strong business relations.”
The naming of SAM HPRP doesn’t fall far from the family tree. S-A-M is a combination of each name in the Shah family: S for Sunil, A for Apoorva, and M for Mita. “We wanted to share our pride in being a family business with our clients and partners, thus founded the name SAM,” said Apoorva, “it also sends a clear message that we believe in our company by putting our names out there.” In addition to the family abbreviations, SAM also pays homage to the famous Uncle Sam – a reminder of the Shah’s family journey to the United States, a land of opportunity.
Furthermore, HPRP is derived from the business motto, High Performance, Reasonable Price. Mita said the business was founded for businesses of all sizes, “when my husband and I started the business, we wanted to make sure that all businesses can access our products while being competitive in the market.”
Today, SAM HPRP continues to bring forth high-quality products that will meet the demands of a growing industries. Beginning from a mere idea of Shah, SAM HPRP Chemicals is now moving more than 2.5 million pounds of barges, multiple times a year, and is now one of the premier suppliers to the animal nutrition, plant nutrition, human nutrition and animal health global industries.
